Personal History
Dr. Amaral was born in Bombay, India and grew up in South Florida. Dr. Amaral earned his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Miami (FL) in Neuroscience and graduated summa cum laude. His thesis work focused on a yeast-genetic model of Huntington’s disease. He subsequently was accepted to the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Miami (FL) and completed a dual doctorate. He obtained his PhD in Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology and focused on demonstrating the effect of growth factor signaling in heart failure. He subsequently completed his MD prior to his further clinical training.
Dr. Amaral completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago. He was part of the Physician Scientist Training Program and completed clinical research in genetic arrhythmia syndromes. He went on to complete an advanced fellowship in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was mentored by luminaries in electrophysiology, including Drs. Gregory Michaud and William Stevenson.
Dr. Amaral has been independently supported by multiple research grants from the National Institutes of Health and authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. His true passion lies in bringing cutting edge clinical care to patients with abnormal heart rhythms. Dr. Amaral is board certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. Prior to starting his role at Clearwater Cardiovascular Consultants, Dr. Amaral was the Director of Electrophysiology Research and an Electrophysiology Consultant for Devices and Ablations at St. Francis Hospital and Heart Center in Roslyn, New York.
Dr. Amaral is available to see patients at the Clearwater, Countryside, and Bardmoor offices.
